MTL holds "Bring a child to work" campaign

Malawi Telecommunications Limited (MTL) launched its “Bring a child to work” campaign on 12th April at an event held at its Head Office Board Room in Blantyre.

Speaking during the launch, MTL’s Corporate Affairs Manager Tina Das  explained that the campaign is part of the company’s Community Outreach programme and aims at empowering students in secondary schools to have a feel of their prospective career choices and make informed decisions about particular careers to pursue.   It is aimed at helping early tertiary education students have  practical  experience of their respective careers.

‘’We want the students who are participating in this programme to come out knowing what they want  to do in  the future and also to evaluate whether their current career choices are suitable for  them’’, she said.

One participant who dreams of pursuing a career in Marketing, Chawanangwa Mswayo, spent his day working in MTL’s Marketing Department. He notes that the experience has broadened the passion he has for his chosen career through the things he has learnt in his day at work and practical experience.

“It was mostly due to the environment my supervisor created; I could ask questions and get relevant answers to do with my career field.  I thank MTL management for this noble initiative but I would like to recommend that the duration of the exercise should be extended as I feel one day is not enough,” he said.

There are about 35 students participating and the campaign will take place across the month of April. Participants in the campaign will work for one day in a career of their choice and the students will be assigned to work in departments that match their dream careers where such are available at MTL.
