Malawi Telecommunications Limited and the Institute of Bankers in Malawi (IOB) on 20th August 2018 established a partnership that will see the two organisations working together on future endeavours of mutual interest starting with this year’s Institute of Bankers Annual Lakeshore Conference.

Speaking during the ceremonial handover of MTL’s sponsorship of IOB lakeshore conference, MTL Head of Business Development Kondwani Masiye recognised that the subject of “Financial inclusion as a driver for economic growth”, which is also this year’s theme, is to some extent dependent on the ICT sector.

“We play a key role as an enabling platform for financial inclusion because our services provide a catalyst for digitalisation of banking services. MTL therefore considers the support to the conference as a contribution towards the country’s economic growth,” he said.

The donation was received by the institute’s Chief Executive Officer, Mrs Lyness Nkungula. In her acceptance speech she said that MTL plays a major role in the work of the banking sector by providing much needed connectivity solutions and therefore it was necessary for the organisation to partner with MTL.

“The money will be used towards making the conference a success and promoting Financial Inclusion in Malawi.  MTL is a key stakeholder in the value chain of the banking industry and IOB looks forward to partnering with MTL not only this year but annually,” said Nkungula.

Malawi Telecommunications Limited, through its premium data connectivity solutions, provides the much needed backbone to the banking sector as more and more bank transactions, such as interbranch and ATM transactions, as well as interbank transactions through Natswitch and RBM, depend on availability of MTL’s services.

The Institute of Bankers in Malawi will hold their Annual Lakeshore Conference at Sunbird Nkopola in Mangochi from the 23rd to 25th August 2018.
